Project_3_Chelsea (Color and Value)

This is a power plant located in a cavern on an alien planet. The plant was built around streams of mineral-heavy water, allowing them to flow into the depths of the cavern so the minerals could be collected and turned into energy. The energy is then sent through the various pipes throughout the cave and into generators like the one at the bottom left. Because of the nature of the water however, the plant requires large hanging mechanisms to monitor the mineral levels in the water so that it’s safe to be collected and handled by workers. Each leg of the device serves as a mister that releases various chemicals to stabilize or adjust the levels of the water and the air; the orb that the legs circle around stores all of the chemicals and also has numerous external cameras to keep a log of everything that happens in the plant.

  1. Value variants are good. Rendering needs work, hard edges on the pipes and flats rather than soft gradients. When rendering/painting, pay attention to the types of edges you're creating, even if it's a style of concept like this (with lines). The edges of the light convey the mass, the material, the shape and even the color of the elements. having too many soft gradients coveys mushy shapes rather than hard materials. Think about it like this, you have a pipe running along your perspective, that line of shadow might soften along the horizontal cross width of that mass, but along it's vertical (longwise) axis, its solid, continuous and is a shape all its own.

  2. Color variants are great. Good job on using the assigned schemes. Each manages to convey a solid mood. The Tetradic needs some adjustment for depth and atmosphere, but overall, good stuff.

    Great work on this project!

  3. I think the green version is my favorite. The colors pop a little more in that version for me.
